Michael Bisping had a lengthy mixed martial arts career that included winning The Ultimate Fighter and making a run to the top of the middleweight division. But during his career, Bisping had some serious injuries including a detached retina after a head kick from Vitor Belfort in 2013.
Bisping has been open about his issues with his vision since that fight and now fans have some questions.
During a recent interview, Bisping revealed that his right eyeball is fake. That has led to speculation about whether Bisping fought in the UFC with a fake eyeball and he has never clearly stated when his eye was removed.
But did he actually fight with a fake eye?
“Don’t worry about it! Don’t worry about it! All you gotta worry about is that I won the belt,” Bisping said, via TMZ Sports. “Don’t worry about it! Don’t worry about it! All you gotta worry about is that I won the belt,” Bisping told us with a grin on his face … “It doesn’t matter!”. “It doesn’t matter!”
Of course, with the thorough medicals and examinations, it is highly unlikely that Bisping would have ever been licensed if he had the prosthetic eye during his career.
In fact, the California State Athletic Commission would have refused Bisping his license in the state.
“A fighter with a glass eye would not be able to be licensed in California,” the athletic commission rules state. “Prosthetics aren’t specifically called out in the code specific to vision, but it would definitely fall under section (g) any other visual condition. Aside from the issues with depth perception and peripheral vision, we couldn’t put somebody in a match where there’s a danger that they could lose their only remaining eye.”
Dana White also seemed to indicate Bisping would have never fought with the prosthetic eye, so we have to believe the surgery took place after his final UFC bout in 2017.
