The Washington Redskins fired coach Jay Gruden after their Week 5 loss. The Redskins were off to a terrible start and Gruden’s job security was low going into the season. There are plenty of other head coaches on the hot seat, however, and it’s unlikely Gruden will be the only coach fired this year. Here are the other coaches whose job could be on the line at some point in 2019.
Dan Quinn, Atlanta Falcons (1-4)

The Atlanta Falcons have a very talented team, from Matt Ryan and Julio Jones to Grady Jarrett and Desmond Trufant. The core of the 2016 team that made it to the Super Bowl is still very much intact, but they’ve steadily declined since blowing that 28-3 lead. Atlanta is sputtering once again, off to a 1-4 start and likely out of the playoff race already. The running game has been non-existent, while the defense, which is supposed to be Quinn’s specialty, has allowed over 30 points a game. At this point it’s not a question of if, but when he will get fired.
Adam Gase, New York Jets (0-4)

(0-4)Although Gase is in just his first year as coach of the Jets, the team has fallen well short of expectations. While some of this can be blamed on injuries and illnesses to quarterback Sam Darnold and linebacker C.J. Mosley, the Jets have looked lifeless through 4 games. Gase was hired as an offensive guru, yet the Jets sit last in yards and 31st in points per game. The Jets have showed no creativity and fell apart in the 4th quarter of the one game they kept close.
Freddie Kitchens, Cleveland Browns (2-3)
The Browns were one of the most hyped teams coming into the 2019 season, with all eyes on second year quarterback Baker Mayfield and new wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. The Browns have come out flat, however, struggling with penalties and play design. A 30-point loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 1 and a 31-3 loss on national television to the San Francisco 49ers highlight the failure of this coaching staff to get the team ready to play. While it’s highly unlikely the Browns would make a change during the season, Kitchens needs to right the ship quickly in order to keep his job past this season. And this draw play on 4th and 9 certainly didn’t help his case.
Doug Marrone, Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3)
The Jaguars have actually played well since quarterback Nick Foles broke his collarbone in Week 1. They’ve gone 2-2 since Gardner Minshew took over, with their two losses coming by a combined 8 points. But this is a Jaguars team that was a game away from the Super Bowl 2 years ago and greatly disappointed last season. In what is likely a make-or-break season for Marrone, his questionable decision to go for 2 down by a point cost the Jaguars their Week 2 game, while his relationship with star cornerback Jalen Ramsey has led to Ramsey demanding a trade. These are issues Marrone can’t afford if he hopes to keep his job.
