After an 0-5 start to the 2019-20 NFL regular season, the Washington Redskins announced the firing of head coach Jay Gruden. With Gruden on the outs, Washington has named assistant head coach/offensive line coach Bill Callahan as interim head coach.
Since news of his firing broke, the oddsmakers have already begun nabbing potential replacements for the gig.
The current favorite to land the job is Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. The 50-year-old has been on the Kansas City Chiefs’ coaching staff since 2013. He previously worked as the running backs coach for the University of Colorado, UCLA, and the Minnesota Vikings. As a player at Colorado, Bieniemy was a Heisman Trophy finalist and consensus All-American.
Other top candidates for the job include Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, and Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.
