Saturday Night Live returned with its season 45 premiere on Saturday, September 28 and the show immediately let the audience know it has not lost a step. As expected, with the volatile political climate, SNL continued to take on President Donald Trump with an impeachment skit to start the show.
But then, the show turned its attention to the Democratic presidential candidates with a hilarious “Town Hall” featuring some of the DNC’s top candidates.
The candidates portrayed during the skit were Beto O’Rourke (Alex Moffat), Andrew Yang (Bowen Yang), Pete Buttigieg (Colin Jost), Elizabeth Warren (Kate McKinnon), Marianne Williamson (Chloe Fineman), Bernie Sanders (Larry David), Joe Biden (Woody Harrelson), and Kamala Harris (Maya Rudolph).
The star of the skit was Rudolph’s Kamala Harris impersonation, opening up with the great line: “I’m America’s cool aunt, a fun aunt, I call that a funt. The kind of funt that will give you weed but then arrest you for that weed.”
Per usual, David gave us a perfect version of Barry Sanders and new castmember Bowen Yang got his moment in the spotlight by portraying entrepreneur Andrew Yang with an impressive impersonation.
Woody Harrelson’s Biden also had some brilliant quips, like taking on some Biden controversy with the line: “Daddy’s here, America. I see you, I hear you, I sniff you, and I hug you from behind.” He also hit a home run by saying, “Look, I’m like plastic straws. I’ve been around forever. I’ve always worked. But now you’re mad at me. Drink up, America.”
