Felipe Vazquez, an All-Star closer for the Pittsburgh Pirates, is facing some very serious legal issues. According to TMZ Sports, the 28-year-old pitcher was arrested on one count of “computer pornography – solicitation of a child” and one count of “providing obscene material to minors.”

The charges stem from a sexual relationship Vazquez reportedly began with a 13-year-old girl in Lee County, Florida. The relationship with the girl, who is now 15 years old, was being investigated when incriminating evidence was discovered in their ongoing relationship.

Vazquez is being held in Allegheny County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Lee County.

TMZ reports:

According to officials, the girl, now 15 years old, WAS continuing to have a relationship with Vasquez and had received a video in July from the MLB star performing a “sex act.” Officials say Vasquez also sent the girl text messages suggesting they would meet for sex after the MLB season ended.

Several electronic devices were seized from Vasquez’s apartment in Pittsburgh during the investigation.

Immediately following reports of Vazquez’s arrest, Pittsburgh Pirates President Frank Coonelly issued a statement on behalf of the organization which says that Vazquez will be placed on “administrative leave” and the restricted list.

“Today we were made aware of an active law enforcement investigation involving Felipe Vázquez and his subsequent arrest. We take this matter, and these charges in particular, extremely seriously. We have informed the Commissioner’s Office of the investigation and arrest. The Commissioner’s Office will immediately place Felipe Vázquez on Administrative Leave (and, as a result, Restricted List) pursuant to the Joint MLB/MLBPA Policy,” the statement read, via WTAE 4 in Pittsburgh.

“We need to be respectful to all involved and the ongoing legal proceeding. As a result, the organization, our staff and players cannot comment any further at this time.”

This season, Vazquez, was is a two-time All-Star who signed a four-year, $22.5 million deal in 2018, has a 1.65 ERA, 28 saves, and 90 strikeouts.
