Rapper Lil Nas X and comedian Kevin Hart appeared on HBO’s LeBron James and Maverick Carter-produced The Shop on September 3 — along with Rob Gronkowski, Kevin Love, CJ McCollum, Charlamagne tha God, and Paul Rivera — and they engaged in a bit of a confrontational back-and-forth.
Lil Nas X was asked about his decision to come out as gay earlier this year, which led to Kevin Hart interrupting the question and dismissing it as not being a big deal by saying “so what?”
Because of Hart’s past homophobic comments and insensitive remarks about the LGBTQ community which led to his decision to step down as host of the Oscars, the internet was quick to jump on Hart for his comments.
Here was the exchange.
But while people online were going after Hart because of his comments, Lil Nas X holds no ill-will and is downplaying their verbal exchange.
“No, I’m not mad at Kevin Hart,” Lil Nas X said during an appearance with DJ Scream and Moran Tha Man on Hoodrich Radio!, as transcribed by TMZ. “A lot of situations like that, I don’t try to get into that. I don’t try to get into these situations because online I’m just here to be funny and laugh.
“I’m not trying to put nothing in, I’m not trying to say anything, because if you say anything your words get twisted then you have to say something about that and then you have to say something about that. Just on and on. So I don’t even try to get into anything, really. But no, I’m not mad at Kevin Hart.”
Lil Nas X’s comments may not lead to internet trolls going after Kevin Hart — who is recovering from a back injury suffered in a car accident earlier this month — but it’s good to know that he is capable of having a discussion without taking things so personally.
Meanwhile, if you would like to watch the full episode of The Shop with X, Hart, and others, you can check it out on HBO Now or HBO Go.
