Lil Nas X is working on his new album. After his breakout success with “Old Town Road” which was one of the most successful singles of all-time, the rapper is working on a new project that he hopes will continue his time at the top of the charts.
Lil Nas X issued a project earlier this year which was an eight-track EP.
Now, he is ready to bring his music to an even wider audience by dropping his debut studio album.
“Yes, I have,” Lil Nas X said about working on his new album during an interview with Angie Martinez on Power 105. “I’m only, like, two percent done though. I wanna have at least, like, 70 songs to choose from before making a 10 to 15 track album. With the EP, I had, like, literally 13 songs and picked half of those. I definitely want it to be, I guess, more personal maybe, but still slapping.
“I listen to ‘1901’ by Phoenix, I think that slaps. I listen to ‘How Bout Now’ by Drake. That’s old but it slaps. I listen to the theme songs from Disney Channel sometimes because some of those slap. I listen to the entire Damn album by Kendrick. That slaps. It’s different things. Even some Taylor Swift, underground songs.”
Lil Nas X had the longest-running US Number One hit in history with “Old Town Road” after sitting in the top spot for 19 weeks.
With his new project, Lil Nas X hopes that it will be “more personal.”
Lil Nas X is set to appear on an upcoming episode of HBO’s talk show The Shop: Uninterrupted where he discusses coming out as gay and much more.
“For me – the ‘cool dude with the song’ – on top of everything to say this,” the rapper said. “Any other time I’m doing this for attention in my eyes, but if you’re doing this while you’re at the top, you know it’s for real, and it’s showing that it doesn’t really matter.”
