Gemma Chan, who was born in London, England, is a rising actress who gained national attention for her role as Astrid in the popular 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians. She would later go on to earn a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel.
As her popularity continues to rise, there are no signs of her success slowing down after a recent announcement that she will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sersi in The Eternals — which will also feature Game of Thrones star Kit Harrington, comedian Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, and many more.
Chan’s father grew up in Hong Kong while her mother grew up in Greenock, Scotland. Chan was raised in South East England and studied jurisprudence and law at Worcester College at the University of Oxford Oxford. After graduation, she turned down a training contract at a law firm to ultimately pursue acting — a move that paid off in the long run.
