Queer Eye star Karamo Brown received some major backlash after coming to the defense of fellow Dancing With the Stars contestant and former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. ABC was criticized for casting Spicer on the upcoming season of the series, with many people unhappy because of Spicer’s previous connection to President Donald Trump.
Brown had said that he looks forward and is “excited” to have a conversation about their political views.
“People would look at us and think that we’re polar opposites,” Brown continued. “But I’m a big believer that if you can talk to someone and meet in the middle, you can learn about each other and help each other both grow.”
For some reason, the willingness to sit down and respectively discuss differences between people became taboo in the Donald Trump age.
The Queer Eye star later continued to defend his position on social media.
Brown told his Twitter following after the initial criticism about his comments that as “a trained social worker and my first instinct is always to sit down and have a conversation. But I understand how my comments could lead people to believe that I don’t understand the gravity of the situation. The personal is political.
“I’m reminded of it daily as a gay man of color. I know that representation matters — that it can affect change. I see you & I hear you. I’m bringing my personal message of love, equity & inclusion to the dance floor. I want it to eclipse & triumph over divisiveness & hatred.”
Unfortunately, people continued to bash Brown for his reasonable comments which ultimately led to the deletion of his Twitter account after the volatile response.
The new season of Dancing With the Stars premieres Monday, September 16, 2019.
