Maurice Hill has been identified as the suspect who was involved in an hours-long standoff with police officers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Police exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who was barricaded inside of the home. The incident began when Philadelphia Police narcotics units were serving a warrant in the Nicetown-Tioga section of North Philadelphia.
There were reports throughout the night that the shooter had been posting video from inside of the home on social media platforms like Facebook Live and Snapchat.
A total of six police officers were injured during the incident, while two others were trapped inside of the home as the shots continued to be fired. Ultimately, the two officers trapped in the home were able to escape with assistance from the SWAT team.
“We have gone from a hostage situation to a barricade,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said. “We are trying to get him to come out peacefully, but he is refusing to do so.”
There was also good news for the six officers who were injured during the shooting, with all six being treated at a local hospital and later released.
“The shooter fired multiple rounds. Officers returned fire – many of whom had to escape through windows and doors to get [away] from a barrage of bullets,” said Ross, via local news affiliate ABC 6. “Despite several attempts to talk to him, both on the loud speaker, on the bullhorn and on telephone, we have not been able to make contact with [the shooter] thus far.”
CBS3 added: “Two women and two children were escorted by SWAT and Philadelphia Police from the scene.”
