Puzzling details continue to emerge following the death of Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier and convicted pedophile who died in his jail cell on Saturday, August 10. There were reports that Epstein’s prison guards failed to appropriately check on him throughout the night, that his cellmate was transferred, and that a fill-in guard was on duty due to a staff shortage just two weeks after he was placed on suicide watch.
Now, there is a report that the New York City Fire Department investigated a post on the internet message board 4chan that had details regarding Epstein’s death 30-40 minutes before it was reported to the public.
“[D]ont ask me how I know, but Epstein died an hour ago from hanging, cardiac arrest. Screencap this,” a post read at at 8:16 a.m., according to Buzzfeed.
FDNY was investigating whether the information was leaked on the message board — commonly used by far-right trolls and white nationalists — by a first responder. Ultimately, they discovered the leak did not come from the fire department.
Buzzfeed added:
After publishing the post, other 4chan users egged on the author. When they said they didn’t believe that the information was true, the original poster added more information to the discussion thread, including a detailed breakdown of the procedures allegedly used to resuscitate Epstein, which suggest the poster may have been a first responder, medical worker, or otherwise privy to details about efforts to resuscitate the disgraced financier.
The post continued to add detailed information about the attempts to revive Epstein including the very specific “telemetry advised bicarb.”
The postings continue to be reviewed.
The death of Epstein has also led to the resurfacing of the longtime “Clinton Body Count” conspiracy theory that circulates on far-right websites and message boards. Investigations into his death have since been opened by the Department of Justice, according to Attorney General William Barr.
Jeffrey Epstein had been behind bars since his arrest on July 6. Authorities were waiting for Epstein to return to New Jersey from Paris and arrested him upon his arrival. The charges against Epstein claim that “dozens” of victims between 2002 to 2005 were are involved in the case which included Epstein allegedly paying minors for sex acts after grooming them. Some of the victims were as young as 14 years old.
Epstein was charged with one count of sex trafficking of minors and one count of conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of minors. If he would have been convicted of the charges, Epstein would have faced up to 45 years in prison.
The 66-year-old financier was a registered sex offender in Florida.
