DJ Arafat, a popular singer from the Ivory Coast whose real name was Ange Didier Huon, passed away early Monday, August 12, according to online reports. The star musician was just 33 years old. According to BBC, Arafat passed away after a serious accident.
The singer was reportedly riding his motorcycle when he was involved in a collision that resulted in a fractured skull. After being transported to the local hospital, DJ Arafat ultimately passed away.
“The boy is gone—he lived like a shooting star,” said A’salfo of the Ivorian group Magic System, via Jeune Afrique. “In the style of zouglou, internationally, there is Magic System. For coupé-décalé, it was DJ Arafat. This is a great loss for Ivorian music.”
Former collaborator David Adeleke, also known as Davido, a Nigerian singer, was another artist who mourned the loss of DJ Arafat on social media.
“Pls tell me it’s not true,” he wrote on Twitter. “Not my brother! God why! RIP YOROBO I LOVE YOU!”

DJ Arafat Cause of Death: Motorcycle Accident
Multiple online reports revealed on Monday, August 12 that DJ Arafat was driving a motorcycle when he collided with a car on Sunday, August 11. He was transported to the hospital in the country’s main city of Abidjan with a fractured skull. Ultimately, Arafat succumbed to his injuries.
According to France 24, DJ Arafat released 11 albums in the “coupé-décalé” dance music genre. DJ Arafat, who was widely considered a pioneer in the genre, had won Artist of the Year in the coupé-decalé category in 2016 and 2017.
