The Ultimate Fighting Championship made its debut stop in Uruguay on Saturday, August 10 for UFC on ESPN+ 14 at Antel Arena in Montevideo. In the main event of the night, women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko made the second defense of her 125-pound crown against former women’s bantamweight title challenger Liz Carmouche.
Shevchenko came out in the main event and immediately controlled the pace and direction of the fight. Never in danger, it was Shevchenko who was able to impose her will against her opponent.
Throughout the fight, it was only Shevchenko who was able to land heavy shots — twice knocking down Carmouche including a spinning backfist — while Carmouche was struggling to get any offense going and was consistently having takedown attempts stuffed by the champion. Ultimately, Shevchenko would outpoint Carmouche to claim the title.
The night also provided some spectacular finishes, along with a nasty cut that led to a doctor’s stoppage and Mike Perry’s unbelievably broken nose.
