Dmitriy Andreychenko has been identified as the man who caused chaos at a Walmart in Missouri when he walked around the store with an assault rifle strapped to his back, body armor, and 100 rounds of ammunition. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported, but his actions did spark panic in the wake of a deadly shooting at an El Paso Walmart which left 22 victims dead and dozens more injured.
Andreychenko was detained by an off-duty firefighter and ultimately arrested for first degree making a terrorist threat.
“On Aug. 8 Springfield Police Officers arrested Dmitriy N. Andreychenko (09/29/98) for 1st degree making a terrorist threat. Once formal charges are filed, more info will be released,” the police department said in a statement on social media. “Thank you to the media & our community for your patience as this investigation continues.”
When the 20-year-old was spotted inside of the store, a manager pulled a fire alarm which led to the store being evacuated.
“He walked in here, heavily armed with body armor on, in military fatigues, and caused a great amount of panic inside the store,” Lr. Mike Lucas said in a statement. “Obviously, what’s happened in Texas and Dayton and all that kind of stuff in the last seven days – that’s on everybody’s mind.”
It was reported that Andreychenko was filming reactions of other customers while he was walking through the store. Missouri is an open-carry state.
“His intent was not to cause peace or comfort,” Lucas added. “He’s lucky he’s alive still, to be honest.”
According to his social media accounts, Andreychenko had studied to be an EMT at Ozarks Technical Community College.
