Connor Betts, the 24-year-old gunman who open-fired at a bar in Dayton, Ohio killing nine people including his sister, had a troubling past. According to his former classmates, Betts was known to have had a hit list while in high school and was reportedly bullied, according to the New York Post.

Former classmates claim that Betts wasn’t bullied and it was actually him who was known to bully others and use violent and vulgar language while speaking about women.

“He had a plan to shoot up the high school in 2010 or 2011,” former classmate Laura Wakeley told the media.

During his time in high school, Betts was suspended for writing his hit list on a bathroom stall. He had reportedly “fantasized” about tying up a female and slitting her throat after she had rejected him, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Betts carried out the August 4 attack with a .223-caliber high-capacity rifle. He had arrived at the bar with his sister, Megan, and another companion. Betts eventually excused himself from the group and then open-fired, killing his sister and eight others.

Approximately 30 seconds into the gunfire, Betts was shot and killed by responding officers.

The 24-year-old was enrolled at Sinclair Community College but was not currently taking summer classes. While enrolled at Sinclair Community College, Betts was studying psychology.

“Our hearts are broken for so many members of this wonderful community this weekend,” Sinclair president Steve Johnson said in a statement. “A senseless tragedy occurred in our community and our thoughts are and will remain with the victims and their friends and families.”

Our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims in the horrific attack.
