Fighter Breaks Opponents Arm With Rare Hold; Brawl Ensues After Stoppage

Juancamilo Ronderos introduced the mixed martial arts world to a new submission at “WXC 80: Warrior Wednesday 5” on Wednesday, July 31. Ronderos was taking on Matthew Elliott in a matchup of undefeated prospects when he landed the move to claim the promotion’s flyweight championship.

Ronderos’ submission is known as the “Sneaky Pete” and is a signature move of Xtreme Couture coach Dennis Davis.

Once Ronderos (3-0) locked in the hold, he snapped Elliott’s arm and earned a technical submission victory. However, the action wasn’t quite over yet, because Elliott (4-1) responded by throwing some heavy hammerfists to Ronderos’ head after the referee stepped in to stop the fight. After the late blows, Ronderos lost his cool and charged Elliott before throwing some strikes of his own.

Luckily, the referee acted quickly and was able to step in before things really got out of hand.

You can check out the madness below, via MMAjunkie.com.

As for the “Sneaky Pete,” Davis revealed that he learned the technique while constantly being on the bottom during grappling exchanges at Team Quest with legends like Randy Couture.

“It’s one of those moves that once you know it, it’s hard to catch guys, but if you’ve got a big, strong dude on top of you – like the guy that was fighting Juan – and it’s hard to get up, it’s go for broke, and that move always freaking works,” Davis told MMAjunkie.

“I was always on bottom because I was going with Randy and guys like that, and I just kind of discovered it and started fine-tweaking it and figuring it out. Now, I’ve got a little system behind it. Anyone I grapple with at a high level that I’ve caught it on, they’re like, ‘What is that? I’ve never seen it.’”

We will have to see if more fighters look to implement the technique moving forward after seeing just how successful it can be.
