Lil Nas X has accomplished what he set out to do. On Monday, July 29, it was announced by the Billboard Charts that the viral hit “Old Town Road” has broken the record for most consecutive weeks as a No. 1 record.

Tlongest-running streak at the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart is now 17 weeks thanks to the “Old Town Road” remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus.

The top spot in the record books previously belonged to “One Sweet Day” by Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey, and “Despacito” by Daddy Yankee, Luis Fonsi, and Justin Bieber. The 20-year-old rapper can now call the hard-to-break record his own.

“Old Town Road” initially released on December 2, 2018, and was produced by YoungKio. The track features a sample from Nine Inch Nails’ “34 Ghosts IV.”

After its initial breakout success, which landed the track on the Billboard Country Music Charts, the song was removed for not being “country enough,” according to the experts.

“Upon further review, it was determined that ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard‘s country charts,” Billboard told Rolling Stone. “When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.”

However, the initial controversy only led to an increase in the track’s profile as more and more ears were exposed to the Lil Nas X hit. Since it became a viral smash, there has been remix after remix including appearances from fellow viral star Mason Ramsey and K-Pop boy band BTS.

Lil Nas X Net Worth

After his hit single, “Old Town Road”, dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for nine weeks, Lil Nas X, born Monterio Lamar Hill, has become a country trap phenomenon. With the enlisted feature of country veteran Billy Ray Cyrus and a star-studded music video, the song has landed Hill a record deal with Columbia Records, a new agency, and collaboration with Wrangler. According to NetWorthLeaks, the breakout star is believed to be worth approximately $2.7 million dollars. It’s no surprise that Hill is a newfound millionaire after Billy Ray Cyrus revealed on the Late Late Show with James Cordon that Hill had bought him a Maserati!
