Chris Rock Set to Reboot ‘Saw’ Franchise

The Saw franchise is set to get a reboot and it’s coming from someone you may not expect. In a report from Deadline, we learned more details about the new reboot that will be adapted by comedian Chris Rock.

The film will be released on May 15, 2020 and filming is already underway, according to Variety.

The new release date comes five months earlier than originally scheduled.

“When Chris Rock came to us and described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins-off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, we were all-in,” Lionsgate chairman Joe Drake told the industry publication, via Deadline. “This upcoming film will still be as mind bending and intense as all the previous Saw films.” He added that the new movie is true to the Saw canon while “reinvigorating the brand with his wit, creative vision and passion.”

Additional details include:

Rock will play a police detective investigating a series of grisly crimes. Samuel L. Jackson will portray Rock’s father. Max Minghella, who stars in Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” and recently directed “Teen Spirit,” also joins the cast as the partner of Rock’s character. “Riverdale” actress Marisol Nichols will play a police captain.

The original Saw film released in 2003. Since then, we have seen multiple sequels with the eigth film of the series Jigsaw was the latest release in October 2017.
