Gender reveals continue to rise in popularity thanks to the social media-driven world we live in today, which leads to couples across the world constantly attempting to one-up each other in their quest for viral fame.
According to 9News Australia, a gender reveal party in the Gold Coast back in April 2018 went terribly wrong after a car used in the stunt caught on fire.
The baby’s father decided to use his car for a burnout to reveal the gender of the baby. As the driver was leaving marks on the street, blue smoke began pouring out of the custom tires. Then, BOOM. The car caught on fire. The drive was able to escape unharmed.
“On several occasions over the past year, gender reveal ‘burnouts’ – in which cars emit billowing clouds of pink or blue smoke – have resulted in flaming vehicles and arrests,” CNN International reported.
Luckily, drone footage was able to catch the unfortunate turn of events.
Along with the embarrassment and loss of his perfectly good car, the driver of the vehicle was found guilty of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fined $1,000, and received a six-month driving ban.
Was it all worth it?
“This is reckless, dangerous behavior. What goes through the mind of this stupid person who’s willing to be out there putting other people’s lives at risk?” NSW Police Inspector Phillip Brooks told the local news. “People that are doing these sorts of things at events, social events, are putting themselves and those that are watching these stupid acts at great risk on our roads.”
But hey, at least the driver and everyone who was at the gender reveal party has one hell of a story to tell in the future. Let’s just hope that they are a little more careful with the child after he is born.
