Jorge Masvidal set a new UFC record at UFC 239 on Saturday, July 6. In just five seconds, Masvidal separated the previously unbeaten Ben Askren from consciousness with a perfectly placed flying knee as Askren shot in for a takedown.
There was plenty of bad blood between the top welterweight contenders leading up to their pay-per-view bout, with Masvidal promising to “end” Askren’s run in the UFC.
With his five-second knockout — which was his second consecutive highlight reel finish after knocking Darren Till out cold in his previous outing — Masvidal has catapulted into the title discussion and should find himself next in line for a crack at the 170-pound championship.
Here is the stunning finish.
