Jason Brown, the former head coach of the Independence Community College football program that is featured on the Netflix reality series Last Chance U, is in legal trouble after he allegedly illegally impersonated a lawyer to stop negative coverage of him in the press and silence local newspapers, according to the Parson Sun.

Brown is alleged to have stolen the identity of a lawyer from Johnnie Cochran’s law firm and had sent cease-and-desist emails to the Montgomery County Chronicle and the Independence Daily Reporter after the papers published articles regarding a fight between ICC and Garden City.

The impersonations continued after the Chronicle published an article about Brown’s mistreatment of a German player which included the coach telling the player “I am your new Hitler.”

Brown is facing eight felony and two misdemeanor charges as a result of illegally impersonating an attorney.

The charges include four counts of blackmail, four counts of identity theft, all felonies, as well as two counts of criminal false communication, both misdemeanors.

Despite his legal issues, Brown will be featured on the upcoming season of Last Chance U which returns to Netflix on Friday, July 19. The fourth season of the series is expected to highlight the background story behind Brown’s resignation from the program.

This season we can expect plenty of drama from what was a disastrous year for the ICC team. Independence Community College finished the year with a disappointing record of just 2-8. The Pirates were led by quarterback Malik Henry, a former Florida State signal-caller who transferred after being suspended for an unspecified violation of team rules. Henry returned to ICC this season but struggled in just two games. He has since transferred to Nevada.

Last Chance U is executive produced by Greg Whiteley.

Independence Community College first appeared on Last Chance U for season 3 in 2018. For the first two seasons of the show, cameras followed around the powerhouse East Mississippi Community College Lions program. Deciding the show needed a change of scenery to keep things fresh, the focus then shifted from Scuba, Mississippi to Independence, Kansas.
