Louis C.K. continues his comeback attempt and he received a warm welcome during a surprise appearance at the SkankFest Comedy Mayhem Festival on Sunday, June 23 in Brooklyn, New York. The star-studded comedy festival also featured appearances from Bill Burr and Saturday Night Live star Michael Che.
In late December 2018, Louis C.K. came under fire in one of his first public appearances following sexual harassment and abuse allegations during the #MeToo movement. Louis C.K. lost shows on FX and a Netflix comedy special when the allegations came to light.
During his return to the stage, Louis made some comments about the Parkland High School shooting survivors and their gun rights advocacy which once again led to criticism.
“Testify in front of Congress, these kids, what the f***? What are you doing?” Louis C.K. said in the leaked audio. “Cause you went to a high school where kids got shot, why does that mean I have to listen to you? Why does that make you interesting? You didn’t get shot. You pushed some fat kid in the way and now I gotta listen to you talking?”
The comments were part of an unfinished bit that he was working on as he tried to get familiar back on the stage.
But while his first return didn’t go as planned, Louis C.K. found much more success during his surprise appearance in Brooklyn.
In fact, Louis C.K. received a standing ovation, according to TMZ.
From the report:
Check out the video … the packed house gave Louis a standing ovation. Some of them literally jumped for joy. You can see a woman going berserk. Louis had the crowd laughing their asses off for about 20 minutes before calling it a night. Remember, last time he made a surprise appearance, back in September, he also got quite the ovation.
