Lily Romero, a 27-year-old woman from Albuquerque, will go down as the first person in her New Mexico city to find herself in trouble with the law for an unfortunate, yet slightly hilarious incident. According to KOB-TV, Romero was pulled over by Albuquerque Police and arrested for DWI after going the wrong direction on a one-way street.
The best part? Romero was riding an electric scooter that only goes 15 mph, becoming the first person in Albuquerque to land a DWI on an electric scooter.
Romero, who claimed she was returning from the bar after having just “two beers,” failed a breathalyzer that showed she was more than two times over the legal limit.
Romero had rented the scooter through the city’s new program which requires the electric scooter riders to stay in bike lanes or sidewalks. When she found out she had violated the law, she was less than happy with the arresting officers.
“Get a real job you f****** d*** head,” Romero yelled at an officer. “If I fail this I’m going to get a DWI? Is that what you’re saying? Are you joking me?
“I cannot f*****g fathom this. ‘I’m riding a scooter because I don’t wanna drive drunk and you’re gonna give me a sobriety test? I just find this ridiculous, dude. Dude, I had two beers, I had two beers. And you’re gonna tell me I have to take a [sobriety test]?”
Luckily for us, it was all caught on video.
Despite being berated by the angry scooter rider, the arresting officer managed to keep his cool and refused to engage in an argument. Once Lily was out of his face, however, you have to believe he enjoyed a moment of laughter over how ridiculous the entire situation was.
And let this be a lesson to us all: Don’t drink and scoot.
