It wasn’t too long ago that the internet was buzzing after Justin Bieber took to social media to randomly call out Tom Cruise. Bieber proposed a UFC fight with the 56-year-old actor and even went as far as to tag master mixed martial arts promoter Dana White. The talk died down, however, when Bieber said that he was just kidding.
But is it actually possible that a Bieber-Cruise fight could happen?
Sure, it seems a bit silly that two celebrities with zero mixed martial arts experience would ever fight for the top promotion in the sport, but it may not be as far-fetched as it seems on the surface.
According to a report from TMZ Sports, a private phone call shows that there may actually be some interest and key executives believe it could be done.
Ari Emanuel, the co-CEO of William Morris Endeavor which owns the UFC, had a private phone call with Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun that also included Dana White. During the call, Dana said that he was “100 percent” open to the idea and Ari expressed his desire to make the fight happen.
That is when Scooter Braun said that Bieber would be down.
Better yet? Ari Emanuel truly believes that Tom Cruise would also be open to the opportunity if it presented itself.
From the report:
We’ve learned last Friday, Ari Emanuel, the co-CEO of the William Morris Endeavor agency that owns UFC — called Justin’s manager, Scooter Braun, and then conferenced in Dana White. Ari said this would be an epic fight that needed to happen, and Dana chimed in that he was “100%” down with it. We’re told Scooter then made it clear … Justin would absolutely fight if Tom wanted to do it.
And, there’s more. During the call, Ari said he strongly believed the 56-year-old actor would agree to enter the Octagon and take on the 25-year-old singer.
Oh boy.
We have previously seen freak show fights with unqualified participants like James Toney and CM Punk take place inside of the UFC’s Octagon in the past, but could they really book a Bieber vs. Cruise fight while trying to tout MMA as a legitimate sport on ESPN?
When Dana White is involved, anything is possible.
