While Ariana Grande was performing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania last week, things took an emotional turn as she broke down at PPG Paints Arena while performing “Raindrops (An Angel Cried),” a song that is rumored to be about ex-boyfriend and late-rapper Mac Miller.
Later in the concert, Ariana reportedly broke down again when it came time to sing Mac Miller’s name in her hit song “Thank U, Next.”
The lyrics say: “Wish I could say thank you to Malcolm,’cause he was an angel.”
The two had dated from 2016 to the spring of 2018.
Throughout the concert, Mac Miller’s presence was prominent.
“At the Ariana Grande concert in pburgh and Mac’s album is playing throughout the stadium before the show <33,” one person who was in attendance tweeted.
“Ariana really had a Mac Miller playlist for the music before the show and she had an empty seat reserved for him. she’s so strong,” another fan wrote prior to Ariana Grande’s performance.
Malcolm James McCormick, best known by his stage name Mac Miller was an American rapper, singer and record producer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He who was born on January 19, 1992 and raised in the Point Breeze part of Pittsburgh. Malcolm would go on to attend Winchester Thurston School and Taylor Allderdice High School.
First breaking into the industry with a mixtape But My Mackin’ Ain’t Easy in 2007. In May 2018, Miller was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and hit and run after allegedly crashing into and knocking down a power pole and fleeing the scene with two passengers.
The official cause of Miller’s death was an accidental drug overdose due to “mixed drug toxicity” of fentanyl, alcohol, and cocaine.
