Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant suffered a ruptured Achilles during Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. It was Durant’s return to the court after a lengthy postseason layoff for what was described as a “calf” injury and many of his teammates were emotional after watching him go down again.

There were also questions about just how responsible for the injury the Golden State Warriors’ medical team was and whether they rushed him back to avoid elimination.

On Thursday, June 13, the person who knows Kevin Durant best opened up about the injury and its aftermath.

Durant’s mother Wanda appeared on television to discuss the injury and she shared what her son told her after he went down.

“He just told me not to cry,” his mother revealed during an interview with Good Morning America. “I know he worked so hard to get back to play and he just told me he was going to be okay, don’t worry.”

She also added: “Kevin couldn’t have gone on his own to say, I’m going to play, without the advisement of the doctors,” but did not appear to blame the medical staff.

Despite the Warriors’ win Monday night, Toronto continues to hold a 3-2 lead in the series. Game 6 will take place on Thursday, June 13 at 9:00 p.m. ET at Oracle Arena. If the Warriors are able to pull out another win, Toronto will host Golden State in Game 7 on Sunday, June 16. Let’s hope that fans on both sides can keep things classy the next time the two teams meet on the court.

As for Durant, we will have to see what his next move is following the postseason. Many expect him to play for the New York Knicks, but following the injury, a return to the Warriors could be in play because of some unfinished business.
