United States soccer star Alex Morgan was one of three cover models for the 2019 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) captain joins Tyra Banks and Camille Kostek on the cover of this year’s issue ahead of the FIFA World Cup. Morgan first appeared in the 2012 issue in body paint, before returning in 2014. Now, she appears for the third time following a photo shoot in St. Lucia.
Morgan, who plays professionally for the Orlando Pride, is one of the seven forwards selected for the United States women’s national team’s run in the 2019 World Cup.
“Although she is a team player in every sense of the word, Alex Morgan is so much more than just an elite athlete,” said SI Swimsuit editor MJ Day in a press release. “From winning a World Cup, to fighting for fair and equal compensation for women, along with the rest of the US Women’s soccer team, she represents all that is confident, strong and beautiful.”
Morgan was a member of the University of California Berkeley soccer team during her college career and finished ranking third all-time in goals scored (46) and points (106). And while she starred on the field, Morgan was able to obtain a degree in Political Economy.
She then went on to have professional stints with West Coast FC, California Storm, Pali Blues, Western New York Flash, Seattle Sounders, Portland Thorns FC, and Lyon.
Morgan was ranked by TIME as the top-paid women’s soccer player in the United States in large part thanks to her various endorsements. She also starred in the film Alex & Me in 2017 where she played a fictionalized version of herself.
