Emma Stone, born Emily Jean Stone on November 6, 1988, in Scottsdale, Arizona, is an American actress who is best known for her Academy Award-winning performance in La La Land.
Born and raised in Scottsdale, Stone began acting when she was young, appearing in a production of The Wind in the Willows when she was 12-years-old.
After briefly attending Xavier College Preparatory, Stone dropped out to move to Los Angeles, California in the year 2004 to begin pursuing a career as an actress. Stone’s first professional acting appearance came in the year 2004 when she appeared as Laurie Partridge in the sitcom The New Partridge Family.
After a few years appearing in various television shows such as Medium, Malcolm in the Middle, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Lucky Louie, and Drive, Stone made her features film debut when she appeared as Jules in the 2007 Jonah Hill-starring comedy Superbad.
In the years since, Stone has gone on to become one of the most well-respected and sought-after actresses of her generation, appearing in comedies, blockbusters, and dramas such as The House Bunny, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Easy A, Crazy, Stupid, Love, Paper Man, Zombieland, Marmaduke, The Help, The Amazing Spider-Man, Gangster Squad, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), Aloha, Irrational Man, La La Land, Battle of the Sexes, and The Favourite.
Stone has been nominated for an Academy Award three times, winning once. In 2014, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). Then, a few years later, she won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in La La Land. Finally, in 2019, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for a second time, this time due to her performance in The Favourite.
