Emilia Clarke, born in Westminster, London, on October 23, 1986, is an English actress and model who is best known for her Emmy-nominated role of Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones.
Raised in Oxfordshire and Berkshire, Clarke attended Rye St. Antony School and St. Edward’s School before eventually attending and graduating from the Drama Centre London in the year 2009.
Clarke made her professional acting debut in the year 2009 when she appeared as Saskia Mayer in an episode of the British medical soap opera Doctors. Following her acting debut, Clarke appeared as Savannah Roundtree in the TV film Triassic Attack before landing the role of a lifetime.
In the year 2011, Clarke began portraying Daenerys Targaryen, one of the leading roles on the record-breaking, award-winning HBO series Game of Thrones.
Following her star turn in Game of Thrones, Clarke has since gone on to become an internationally recognized actress and global superstar, amassing over 23 million followers on Instagram. Her Game of Thrones fame also resulted in TIME naming her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2019.
Since becoming a worldwide-known actress, Clarke has since starred in a handful of feature films such as Dom Hemingway, Terminator Genisys, Me Before You, Voice from the Stone, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Last Christmas, and Above Suspicion.
Additionally, in the year 2013, Clarke made her Broadway stage debut as Holly Golightly in a 2013 production of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Now, following eight seasons of starring on Game of Thrones, Clarke is now one of the most in-demand actresses in the world.
