It has been almost 2,200 days since The Office ended.

Buzz about The Office still runs rampant despite 6 years having passed since the May 16th, 2013 Finale aired. The legendary sitcom is quoted by young people daily, and it’s become the regular focus of memes, personality quizzes, and references.

With just over 200 episodes, The Office has embedded itself into the lives of television and Netflix enthusiasts all over. So, what legacy has it made since its release? From awards, ratings, and cultural impacts, The Office has changed television and digital streaming.

The Office has quite the list of accomplishments. It has acquired over 40 Emmy nominations and 5 Emmy wins including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, among several other awards. If this doesn’t show that The Office is successful in the entertainment industry, we don’t know what will. Several cast and crew members have also won awards from their exceptional comedic acting such as Golden Globe Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

During the time The Office aired, it drew millions of viewers every episode. It achieved high ratings each season and was placed into a primetime NBC air slot. Since 2018, it has aired on Comedy Central, Nick at Nite, and Paramount Network.

While the show was successful almost immediately when first on air, Netflix has helped The Office maintain and even grow that popularity in recent years. According to Vox and a Jumpshot study, The Office is the most popular show on Netflix with over 7% of total Netflix viewers watching The Office as of December 2018. Since Netflix allows on-demand viewing to over 139 million people, that’s millions of people who are still watching now. The Office is known to be extremely popular to both binge watch and mindlessly put on in the background of life, and anybody with access to a Netflix account currently has the opportunity to watch the entire series whenever they want.

With The Office being on Netflix, a whole new audience of younger people has been exposed to the hilarity of the story. Watching Netflix is a great study break or casual hangout activity amongst college students, so it is no surprise that it is the most popular TV show among current college students according to a recent study — despite the series ending in 2013. This keeps the legacy of The Office alive, as it is constantly being quoted, become the theme of parties, and has its own social media following from fan pages and memes.

If you haven’t seen The Office yet, you may as well jump on the bandwagon while you still have the chance. If you enjoy shows like Parks & Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Arrested Development, you’ll definitely like The Office.
