Update:: According to Conrad Thompson, Flair’s current health situation “is not as serious as initially reported by TMZ” and that Flair had this procedure scheduled ahead of time.
Legendary WWE wrestler Ric Flair has been hospitalized in Atlanta, Georgia, after suffering what’s been initially described as a “serious” medical emergency. At the time of this writing, Flair’s current condition is unknown.
While Flair has had numerous health issues in recent years, it is unclear what the nature o this current medical emergency is.
Back in 2017, Flair suffered from a heart condition called alcoholic cardiomyopathy.
On August 14, 2017, the 16-time wrestling world champion underwent surgery in Georgia hospital to extract an obstructive piece of his bowel. However, the procedure resulted in various medical complications such as kidney failure, which required dialysis treatment and Flair being placed into a medically-induced coma. He was eventually released from the hospital a month later.
Flair — who was born in Memphis, Tennessee on February 25, 1949 — is one of the most recognizable faces in the history of professional wrestling.
Flair first signed with World Wrestling Entertainment (then called the World Wrestling Federation or WWF for short), back in August of 1991.
A 16-time world champion during his time with the WWE, Flair is largely considered to be the greatest professional wrestler to ever live.
A two-time inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame, Flair is also a member of the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame, the NWA Hall of Fame, and Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Flair, his friends, family, and various loved ones during this extremely difficult time.
