As Game of Thrones heads into its series finale, one last magical and other-worldly destructive force faces Westeroes Mightiest Heroes.

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR ‘GAME OF THRONES’ SEASON 8 WILL FOLLOW AFTER THE GIFs.

game of thrones Spoilers

Depending on which side of the aisle you fall on, Daenerys’ tragic turn into a supervillain in Game of Thrones penultimate episode was either the greatest twist you’ve ever seen or a potentially show-ruining moment.

But regardless of how you feel about it, it happened whether you like it or not, and its consequences need to be resolved in the upcoming series finale.

And we can theorize, we can speculate, and we can plot until we’re blue in the face, but the fact remains that none of what Westeros’ finest do in the final episode of Game of Thrones matters unless they can figure out a way to deal — *not necessarily kill, but deal* — with Drogon, now clearly the most dangerous weapon in the realm.

Essentially used as a carpet bomb-spitting fighter jet in the penultimate episode of the series, “The Bells”, no Northern army or faceless assassin or Tyrion intervention is going to be able to thwart the Mad Queen in the presence of Drogon.

But how do beaten and battered humans on the heels of multiple battles and without the use of the Lannister scorpions take down a seemingly invincible and devastatingly destructive dragon?

Given that Bran Stark has turned into a walking-talking meme, it can be easy to forget that he, and not Drogon, may be the most magical force left in the realm following the defeat of the Night King.

While the Three-Eyed Raven was unnervingly absent during Daenerys descent into Mad Queendom, his presence is sure to be felt in the final episode, and perhaps that includes him using his Warging abilities to somehow disarm the nuclear bomb that is Drogon.

Jon Snow (Aegon Targaryen)

Yes, Daenerys is Mother of Dragons and has been saddling Drogon exclusively ever since season four, but as we’ve seen in this final season, Jon’s true Targaryen heritage makes him as accepted by the dragons as Dany is.

Will Dany try to Dracarys Jon only for Drogon to refuse? Who knows how exactly Jon gets close enough to Drogon, but if he does, there’s no one else in the realm with better qualifications to tame the dragon.

Kill Daenerys

The fact is that — and perhaps this may be the biggest indictment of Daenerys’ true decency — Drogon has never really gone out of his way to roast thousands of innocent people. Sure, he may char a person or two when he’s trying to feed himself, but similar to a gun, Drogon is a weapon that needs *firing*, so maybe if you can kill the triggerman, the threat is neutralized.

Now, given that killing Daenerys requires her being nowhere near Drogon, this type of thinking lends credence to the theory that Arya — once again using her now-legendary and world-saving assassin skills — will be the one to ultimately end the Mad Queen’s reign.

The eighth and final season of HBO’s Emmy Award-winning fantasy drama ‘Game of Thrones’, which first debuted back in 2011, will air its final episode on Sunday, May 19.
