Despite the fact that Bran Stark has taken every chance he’s gotten to remind people that he’s barely a human being, his odds to become the ultimate ruler of Westeros recently spiked in Las Vegas.
WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR ‘GAME OF THRONES’ SEASON 8 WILL FOLLOW AFTER THE GIFs.
Heading into the final six episodes of Game of Thrones, the artist formerly known as Brandon Stark entered the season as the favorite to sit on the Iron Throne at about -150. Overwhelming odds, no, but a favorite nonetheless.
However, during the season, as Bran routinely reminded everyone that he’s barely human and Daenerys slipped into madness, Jon Snow began to creep up in the odds and begin to look like a favorite. Given his blood right to the Iron Throne and the adoration he receives from his followers, it began to seem more and more likely that the series’ archetypal hero would be the one to ultimately rule.
But now, following the show’s penultimate episode, Bran — who was not even in said episode — has spiked from +200 to -500 to become the overwhelming favorite, according to Odd Shark.
Conversely, the odds of everyone’s favorite reluctant ruler Jon Snow sitting on the Iron Throne have fallen off a cliff, as he now sits at +800.
Now, as to how the Three-Eyed Raven — a barely human figure who uses every opportunity he has to remind those who love him that he’s no longer Bran Stark — can possibly end up the ruler of Westeros is currently beyond me at this point.
Given the sheer destruction and devastation caused in recent weeks, part of me thinks that Bran may use his apparent time-travel abilities to hit some form of a reset button. But even if that did happen, it’s tough to imagine a scenario where that translates to him parking his wheelchair in the Throne Room of the Red Keep.
However, all that said, if you fancy yourself a gambling man, toss a little bit on Jon, as his blood right and clear natural ruling ability still make him worth the longshot.
The eighth and final season of HBO’s Emmy Award-winning fantasy drama ‘Game of Thrones’, which first debuted back in 2011, will air its final episode on Sunday, May 19.
