Joe Biden, the former Vice President of the United States and current Democratic presidential candidate, has worked in politics for over 40 plus years

Biden started his career serving on the New Castle County Council before eventually running and winning a spot in the U.S. Senate from the state of Delaware. He served as a senator for over 30 years until he was named Barack Obama’s running mate in 2008.

A New York Times bestselling author and charitable man, the Biden Foundation raised over $3.2 million in 2017 according to the nonprofit’s tax return for that year. Joe has also given himself the label of ‘the poorest man in Congress’ during his time in the Senate, as well as being called ‘middle-class Joe’ by the media.

According to multiple online estimates, Biden has a current net worth between $900,000 to $1.5 Million with most of his wealth coming from his time as Vice President and from speaking fees.

1960-1970’s

Biden graduated from high school in 1961 as class president. Biden attended the University of Delaware in Newark, where he seemed to focus mostly on sports, and he later entered Syracuse University College of Law, receiving a partial scholarship.

Biden became an attorney in 1969 after receiving his J.D. from Syracuse University and began practicing law in his home state of Delaware. Biden quickly transitioned to politics and was elected to the New Castle County Council.

A few weeks after he was elected to the U.S. Senate, his first wife Neilia and his one-year-old daughter Naomi died tragically in a car crash.


2017-Present

Biden was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his service to America by Obama in 2017.

Biden has been married twice and wrote two books, “Promises to Keep: On Life and Politics” (2008) and “Promise Me, Dad” (2017) based on his son Beau’s early death.

Biden unsuccessfully ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1988 and 2008, both times dropping out early in the race. In April of 2019, Biden announced he was running again for the Democratic presidential nomination for the 2020 election.

Biden is currently polling the highest out of the crowded field of Democratic candidates at 46% according to a new Hill-HarrisX poll.
