Triple Crown season is in full swing and with the Preakness Stakes two weeks away the early odds have been released. Despite a controversial win in the Kentucky Derby after the first-place finisher was disqualified, Country House has been installed as the favorite to win “The Second Jewel of the Triple Crown.”
The Preakness, also known as “The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans,” is a 9.5-furlong race at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The race is open to three-year-old colts and fillies.
Other favorites include War of Will (4-1) and Code of Honor (7-2). Post positions for the start of the race have yet to be determined.
This year’s race will be the 144th running of the Preakness Stakes.

With the first leg of the Triple Crown now in the books, the fun will continue on Saturday, May 18 with the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The Triple Crown will then come to an end with the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 8 at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.
Just one year ago, the Bob Baffert-trained Justify blew away the competition in the Derby, Preakness, and Belmont to become just the fifth horse since 1950 to win the Triple Crown.
We will have to see whether any of this year’s horses can duplicate that incredible feat.
