Lil Nas X is continuing to dominate the Billboard charts. In the latest week, the rapper was able to hold off the one and only Taylor Swift in order to maintain the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the fifth consecutive week.
The rapper’s time at the top of the charts continued, despite Swift dropping a new single “ME!”
In addition to topping the charts, Lil Nas X’s viral hit “Old Town Road” has also set new streaming records. According to reports, “Old Town Road” is the first song in history to earn over 100 million U.S. streams across four different weeks.
Lil Nas X continues to hold the top spot on the Streaming Songs chart, but has fell to No. 2 on the Digital Song Sales chart to Swift’s single with Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco.
After its initial breakout success, which landed the track on the Billboard Country Music Charts, the song was removed for not being “country enough,” according to the experts.
“Upon further review, it was determined that ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard‘s country charts,” Billboard told Rolling Stone. “When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.”
However, since then, listeners have continued to rally behind Lil Nas X and the track is now more popular than ever.
