While most of our heroes were able to escape The Battle of Winterfell in “The Long Night” (season 8, episode 3) with their lives still intact, because Game of Thrones is still Game of Thrones — one of the most notoriously unforgiving shows to ever exist — there were still plenty of casualties in tonight’s wild episode, the still untitled fourth episode of the final season.

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR SEASON 8, EPISODE 4 OF ‘GAME OF THRONES’ WILL FOLLOW AFTER THE GIFs.

Who Dies in Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 4?

While the episode opens in a relatively good mood following the Living’s victory over the Night King and the Army of the Dead in the Battle of Winterfell, the closing moments of tonight’s episode were anything but.

There were two major deaths in the episode, both due to Cersei Lannister.

The first major death Rhaegal, one of two remaining dragons, is killed by a scorpion arrow from one of Euron Greyjoy’s ships.

The second major death is Missandei, who was captured by Euron following his attack, is beheaded by The Mountain at the end of the episode.

While Cersei was given the option to choose peace and let Missandei live, she chooses violence — as she has done so many times in the past — and has the Moutain behead Missandei as an act of war, sending Daneryes into a likely rage.

Both of these deaths impact Dany directing, as Rhaegal represented one of her children, while Missandei represented her best, and essentially only, true friend. How she responds to these deaths will likely be a key plot point heading into next week’s episode.

The eighth and final season of HBO’s Emmy Award-winning fantasy drama ‘Game of Thrones’, which first premiered on Sunday, April 17, 2011, will conclude it’s epic eight-season run on Sunday, May 19, 2019.

That is all the information that is available at this time. This article will be updated with new and relevant information should it become available at any time. If there is anything that we missed, please feel free to send an email to editor@teamcoed.com and we will respond as soon as possible.
