Game of Thrones fans finally got to experience the long-awaited “Battle of Winterfell.” There was no shortage of reaction on social media, but what did stars like Maisie Williams think about the epic scenes from season 8, episode 3 that had the fans talking? Well, thanks to an interview that dropped following “The Long Night” we get to hear first hand we got to hear what Williams, who portrays Arya Stark, had to say about her character’s role in the battle.

WARNING: Spoilers ahead

In the episode, Arya became an instant legend when she was able to take down The Night King. But as it turns out, Williams had no idea that her character would ultimately make the big move in the series until going through the script on the day of the table read.

“I was coming into work and everybody was talking about episode 3 and [director Miguel Sapochnik] was like, ‘Have you read the [episode 3 script] yet?'” Williams said in the interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Once the script got to the point where Arya kills The Night King with her Valyrian steel dagger, the room erupted in applause but Williams was unsure of how receptive the audience would be.

“It was so unbelievably exciting,” she added. “But I immediately thought that everybody would hate it; that Arya doesn’t deserve it. The hardest thing is in any series is when you build up a villain that’s so impossible to defeat and then you defeat them. It has to be intelligently done because otherwise people are like, ‘Well, [the villain] couldn’t have been that bad when some 100-pound girl comes in and stabs him.’ You gotta make it cool. And then I told my boyfriend and he was like, ‘Mmm, should be Jon though really, shouldn’t it?’”

Alas, the Game of Thrones audience seemed to eat it up.
