The latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Endgame, found overwhelming success on opening weekend around the world. The signs were already there that Avengers: Endgame was set up for a record-setting debut at the box office following the incredibly high demand for tickets.

With the numbers now coming in, we get to see just how successful the film was.

When it was all said and done, Avengers: Endgame became the first-ever film to surpass $1 billion on its opening weekend. It took just five days for Endgame to eclipse the mark with $1.2 billion worldwide, according to CNBC.

Avengers: Infinity War had taken 11 days to reach the $1 billion mark. Among the $1.2 billion worldwide included $350 million in North America.

“Kevin Feige and the Marvel Studios team have continued to challenge notions of what is possible at the movie theater both in terms of storytelling and at the box office,” said Alan Horn, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, via Complex. “Though Endgame is far from an end for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these first 22 films constitute a sprawling achievement, and this weekend’s monumental success is a testament to the world they’ve envisioned, the talent involved, and their collective passion, matched by the irrepressible enthusiasm of fans around the world.”

In total, the 22 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have racked in more than $19 billion worldwide at the box office.

“Though ‘Endgame’ is far from an end for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these first 22 films constitute a sprawling achievement, and this weekend’s monumental success is a testament to the world they’ve envisioned, the talent involved, and their collective passion, matched by the irrepressible enthusiasm of fans around the world,” Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, said in a statement.

For anyone who hasn’t seen Endgame yet, we suggest getting to the theater as soon as possible to avoid any spoilers since it appears that everyone in the world is already watching.
