Bellator 220 took place Saturday, April 27 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. In the main event of the night, 170-pound champion Rory MacDonald defended his title against Jon Fitch in the opening round of the Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix. When it was all said and done, the two fighters fought to a majority draw, allowing MacDonald to retain his title and advance to the tournament semifinals against Neiman Gracie.
In the co-main event, Ilima-Lei Macfarlane bloodied Veta Arteaga en route to retaining her women’s flyweight championship.
Following the epic night of fights, the California State Athletic Commission announced the payouts for each competitor on the card. MacDonald led the way with a $200,000 payout. Fitch, meanwhile, earned $140,000 for his efforts. The only other fighters to top six figures were former light heavyweight champion Phil Davis, who picked up $160,000, and former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson who earned $100,000 on the night.
The figures released do not include any money from outside sponsors. Bellator 220 purses also exclude any locker room or performance-based bonuses.
