‘Asgardians of the Galaxy’: Is Thor Going To Be In ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?’

After more than a year of theories, speculation, and rumors, fans were given all the answers they sought and then some during the course of Avengers: Endgame’s three-hour runtime.

However, with more answers only come more questions, the biggest of them being, where do we go from here? Or, more specifically, where does Thor go from here?

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR ‘AVENGERS: ENDGAME’ WILL FOLLOW AFTER THE GIFs (LITERALLY, RIGHT AFTER THE GIFs).

Following the climactic battle with Thanos, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are scattered all across time and space.

Clint Barton reunites with his family. Scott Lang gets to be with his daughter. Tony Stark is finally laid to rest. Captain America travels back in time to live the life he always deserved and passes the shield to Falcon.

But of all the major character endings (or new beginnings, depending on how you look at it), one of the most interesting outcomes involved our favorite Asgardian demigod: Thor.

During the course of Infinity War and Endgame, it could be argued that Thor had the most challenging arc out of any of the characters, as he not only was burdened by the grief of losing his people but his failure to properly kill Thanos at the end of Infinity War.

The Endgame version of Thor is unlike any we’ve seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, as he’s fat, out-of-shape, dejected, and mostly drunk. However, thanks to a slap in the face from Rocket and a pep talk from his mother, Thor is able to rally and ultimately serve as one of the MVPs in the final battle against Thanos.

And while all of that’s well and good, it’s where he ends up after said battle that’s so interesting: with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

In one of the funniest scenes of the movie, Thor can be seen making his home on the Guardians’ ship as he challenges Peter Quill’s leadership of the crew and gleefully calls them the ‘Asgardians of the Galaxy.’

So, the question that fans had exiting the theater was whether that ‘Asgardians’ line was merely a toss away joke or a hint of things to come?

While nothing official has been confirmed, our guess is a definitive ‘yes, Thor will be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. And here’s why.

As we saw in Thor: Ragnarok (easily the best film in the Thor franchise), the character seems to thrive out in the oddity of space.

Not only that, but Thor has a history with the Guardians — particularly Rocket, who is essentially his best friend now — following Infinity War.

When considering all of the above facts — Thor’s essentially homeless, Rockey is his best friend, and his character works best in the far reaches of space — it’s more than reasonable to assume that, yes, Thor will be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3., which recently reinstated James Gunn as it’s director, has no official release date at this time.
