After 11 years, 22 films, and one major snap, Avengers: Endgame has finally been unleashed into our timeline (that’s a little topical reference for you).

Following the events of Avengers: Infinity War, fans have been left wondering for the past year how exactly Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are going to dig themselves out of the half-the-universe size hole they found themselves in the aftermath of Thanos’ snap.

But more so than how the Avengers were going to save the universe, fans have been wondering exactly what it will cost, or rather, which Avengers it will cost.

And now that Avengers: Endgame has finally made its way into our reality, fans finally have their answer.

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR ‘AVENGERS: ENDGAME’ WILL FOLLOW AFTER THE GIFs.

Who Dies in Avengers: Endgame?

In Avengers: Endgame, while there are two primary character deaths, we really say goodbye to three characters:

Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow: Killed on Vormir when her and Clint Barton are tasked with retrieving the Soul Stone. Her death mirrors that of Gamora’s in Avengers: Infinity War.

Tony Stark / Iron Man: Killed in the climactic battle against Thanos by using the Infinity Gauntlet to snap away Thanos and his army.

Steve Rodgers / Captain America: While Captain America is (surprisingly) not killed, he is tasked with returning the Infinity Stones to their rightful place in the past, and when he’s done, he decides to stay in the past and live a long, full life with his true love, Margaret “Peggy” Carter.

In addition to those three, Thanos, the Children of Thanos, and his entire army are also snapped away, the same way Thanos did to the innocent at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.

Given the departures of these four major characters, the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe looks quite different for the first time in a long time. And that’s just fine, as the send-off that Avengers: Endgame gave them was definitively a worthy one.
