The culmination of over 20 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Infinity Saga” comes to a head with Avengers: Endgame.
Avengers: Infinity War ended on the wildest of cliffhangers, as the “Mad Titan” Thanos won. He acquired all the infinity stones, snapped his fingers, and wiped half of the universe from existence. That included heroes like Spider-Man, Black Panther, Star Lord, and more.
Nearly a year has passed since that happened and every fan has been coming up with tons of theories and predictions. Some are obvious, like the thought that every hero who was eviscerated will return, but we wanted to go with some that are less popular. Without further ado, these are our most bold predictions for Avengers: Endgame!
5. Peggy Carter And Goose The Cat Appear
One of the most popular theories for this movie is that time travel will play a significant role. Thanks to the quantum realm introduced in Ant-Man and expanded on in Ant-Man and The Wasp, it is expected. The first trailer released for this movie saw Steve Rogers looking at a picture of his old flame from 1942, Peggy Carter. We believe one of their trips through time takes them to the 40s and a run-in with Carter. We haven’t seen her since Captain America: The Winter Soldier as she passed away in Captain America: Civil War.
Unlike Carter, the appearance of Goose the Cat has less proof or clues behind it. Goose was a scene stealer in this past March’s Captain Marvel. We won’t reveal too much about Goose in case you haven’t seen that film. What we will say is that Goose could make a small appearance, even if it’s just to have a reunion with Carol Danvers.
4. Gamora Returns
As stated earlier, fans have long expected all those who were victims of Thanos’ snap to return. We already have a confirmed Spider-Man sequel, as well as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Plus, there are rumors of sequels for Black Panther and Doctor Strange. But what about those who died in Avengers: Infinity War before the snap? For those keeping score, that includes Vision, Loki, and Gamora.
Though Vision and Loki are lined up for shows on Disney+, those could be side adventures taking place at points in the past. Their return doesn’t have to be etched in stone. However, Gamora’s could be. She was sacrificed by Thanos to retrieve the soul stone and when he performed the snap, he immediately was transported to what seemed to be the inside of the stone for a conversation with a young Gamora. We think she is trapped there and let out either when Thanos is defeated or if someone else makes a sacrifice that replaces her.
3. Tony Stark Dies
Okay, so this is one that people have been predicting for quite some time. It’s just so important that we had to include. The speculation is that this installment marks the end for both Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. But does one of them die? It would seem that Rogers would be the one to lose his life in some heroic way.
But we’re going with Stark. Think about to the original Avengers. Stark and Rogers have an argument where Rogers questions Stark’s ability to make the “sacrifice play.” He ultimately attempts it at the end of that film, but what if he goes through with it here? Stark dies, either fighting Thanos or saving everyone else. The trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home seems to indicate that Stark isn’t exactly around.
2. The Ultimate Avengers Shot
In Avengers there was the spinning shot of our six core heroes fighting in New York. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, there was the one of those same heroes jumping into action. They’re iconic moments. While we didn’t get one of the whole team in Avengers: Infinity War, we think it happens here and it’s bigger than ever.
The idea that all of our heroes from various franchises will come together for one massive shot seems insane. We’re talking the ones who are still alive and those who return from the snap. Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man, Wasp, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, and everyone in between. Throw in the hint that Scarlett Johansson dropped about over 30 heroes being on screen together at once a while back and this is as good a time as any.
1. A New Captain
We predicted that Tony Stark would be the core Avenger to meet his demise in this installment. That kind of means we think Captain America lives. What he does with that life isn’t clear, but we do know one thing. Actor Chris Evans has been open about wanting to move on from these movies and he posted an emotional goodbye to the role on social media.
As Evans exits the MCU, so does the Captain America character. Sure, Becky Barnes or Sam Wilson could ultimately take over the role, but the team wouldn’t exactly see them as leaders. This prediction is that Rogers hands over the mantle of captain to Carol Danvers. With no Captain America, Captain Marvel can step in as the new leader of the Avengers. Rogers can ride off into the sunset knowing the team is in good hands.
