After years of waiting, rumors, speculation, and expectations, the week of Avengers: Endgame is finally upon us, and if the early reviews are any indication, the film is more than worth the wait.
After premiering in Los Angeles on Monday, April 22, reviews from both journalists and movie fans alike began to hit the internet, and the initial response has been beyond positive, with some going as far as calling it the greatest comic book film of all-time.
But before we get to the reviews, let’s have a quick refresher on the movie’s official synopsis:
“Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers — Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner — must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos — the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe.
Avengers: Endgame Reviews & Reactions
Now, to the reviews, which have been overwhelmingly positive across the board:
Brandon Davis from Comicbook.com called Endgame “an astonishing, amazing film.”
Umberto Gonzales with The Wrap said of Endgame “I laughed, I cried (multiple times), I screamed, but overall an EPIC ending to the Infinity Saga.”
Film critic Scott Mantz said that Avengers: Endgame “brings the entire MCU to a rousing, exciting, deeply moving & wholly satisfying conclusion” and is a “fun, smart, clever, brilliant” movie that features a “perfect blend of action, heart & humor.”
Eric Eisenberg with CinemaBlend said that Avengers: Endgame is “everything you want it to be and more.”
Germain Lussier with Gizmodo and Slash Filk said that Avengers: Endgame is ‘staggering’ and that it’s “surprising in ways I never saw coming and satisfying in ways I didn’t realize I needed.”
Additionally, Lussier described Endgame as the “ultimate gift to fans of the MCU.”

Avengers: Endgame will star Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Brie Larson, Bradley Cooper, Josh Brolin, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Karen Gillan, Don Cheadle, Gweneth Paltrow and more.
At the time of its release, it will be the 22nd film in the 11-year old Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War. The movie was preceded by Captain Marvel and will be followed up by Spider-Man: Far From Home in July.
Avengers: Endgame will officially hit theaters in the United States on Friday, April 26, although screenings will begin on the evening on Thursday, April 25.
