Terence Crawford vs. Amir Khan came to an anticlimactic end after six rounds of action at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Crawford, who is considered by many to be the pound-for-pound best fighter in boxing, was putting on a strong showing before the fight was called to an end.

Crawford scored an early knockdown of Khan and was dictating the fight before a devastating low blow in Round 6.

Despite having five minutes to fully recover, Khan said he could not continue. It was officially Khan’s trainer Virgil Hunter who told the referee his fighter could not continue.

As a result, Crawford was awarded a TKO victory. And as you would expect, the crowd of more than 14,000 in New York City was left booing after an unsatisfying end to the night.

When the fight was called off, Crawford was leading the CompuBox count landing 42 percent of his punches (88 of 211). Crawford held a 58 to 31 advantage over Khan in power shots, landing a whopping 50 percent of his power punches. Throughout the fight, Khan had landed just 24 percent of his punches (44 of 182).

Following the fight, Top Rank CEO and founder Bob Arum called for a boycott of Al Haymon events until Haymon agreed to allow Crawford to fight Errol Spence Jr. inside of the ring.

“We want to fight Errol Spence, Terence wants it and I think Errol wants it,” Arum said during a post-fight interview. “There is one guy stopping it and that’s Al Haymon. All fans should refuse to patronize Haymon’s fights until Spence fights Crawford.”

Whether Haymon ever allows the Crawford vs. Spence fight to materialize remains to be seen, but it is the fight that makes the most sense for both fighters and the fans.
