Former UFC fighter Angela Magana underwent emergency surgery on Tuesday, April 16 at University Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The surgery was for cauda equina syndrome but an adverse reaction to anesthesia led to Magana falling into a coma. Two days later, on Thursday, April 18, Magana’s coach Gabriel Lamastus announced that she had woken up from the coma.

Now, Magana has issued a statement of her own.

“Your Majesty” uploaded a tearful, emotional video to Youtube that shared an update on her health while also thanking the fans for their support. Magana also vowed to return to mixed martial arts soon after her recovery.

“Hi, guys. I’m awake. I still feel very tired. Like, I can barely open my eyes. But thank you, everybody, for thinking about me. I feel like I’m a very rich woman because I have a lot of time. Look what happened: I almost lost all my time. But to take time to wish somebody well, what do we do with time? We make money. So time’s more valuable than money. So, thank you to everybody who took the time to wish me well,” Magana said.

“I’m going to make a full recovery. The problem was just the anesthesia. The disc procedure and cauda equina stuff was better than they thought. The surgery was great; it was just the anesthesia. I’m going to get better, and I’ll be fighting again soon. Nothing will stop me, man. And Combate Americas has been so good to me. Thank you.”

Magana (11-10) was scheduled to fight Kyra Batara at “Combate 35: Reinas” on April 26 in Los Angeles. Magana is currently on a six-fight losing streak. She was released from the UFC following losses to Tecia Torres, Michelle Waterson, and Amanda Bobby Cooper. “Your Majesty”

Combate Americas also issued a statement on Magana’s status.

“We are thrilled and relieved to hear that Angela has come out of the coma and is alert and responsive,” Combate Americas Sr. VP of Operations and Communications said in a statement, via MMAjunkie.com. “We have to imagine that her fierceness and determination has played a part in her recovery.”

We continue to wish Magana a full and speedy recovery.
