Mark Ruffalo Says Hulk’s ‘Infinity War’ Arc Was Originally Much Different

Known occasionally letting some reasonably massive spoilers slip (he once said on Good Morning America during an Infinity War press tour “wait till you see this next one, half, everybody dies”), Mark Ruffalo is probably not allowed to say much regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe these days.

However, Ruffalo did recently sit down for an interview with Yahoo News where he divulged an interesting tidbit about the original fate of Hulk in Avengers: Infinity War.

During sit-down interviews with the main cast of Infinity War and Endgame, Ruffalo reveals that the Russo Brothers actually shot two endings for his character — one where he lives, and one where he dies — and that Ruffalo himself didn’t know Hulk’s fate until the movie came out.

“I didn’t know until I saw the movie. For one take, I did disappear, and then the other one I didn’t,” Ruffalo said.

“I was pretty sure it was gonna be me,” he continued. “It’s like Survivor. It’s like, who’s gonna get kicked off the island? And I probably should’ve… It’s like Project Runway for leakers.”

Given that now infamous accidental spoiler that Ruffalo dropped on GMA (much to the shock of Don Cheadle, the funniest part of that whole video), it’s probably a good thing that Marvel Studios decided to hit their own actors with misdirections.

Avengers: Endgame, which is poised to become the highest-grossing movie in the history of cinema, sees the surviving members of the Avengers and their allies work to reverse the damage caused by Thanos in Infinity War.

Additionally, the movie will conclude a massive chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as “Phase Four” of the franchise will begin with the following film, Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Avengers: Endgame — the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed film that will be the 22nd movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — will be released in theaters on the night of Thursday, April 25.
