Columbine High School is one of the most recognizable high schools in the country as it was the site of one of the first modern mass shootings in the United States.

On April 20, 1999, two senior Columbine students — Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold — murdered 12 students and one teacher before killing themselves.

The reports of lockdowns at multiple schools in Jefferson County, Colorado, is just the latest in a string of lockdowns, bomb threats, and mass shootings that have plagued the United States.
