Brook Ellen West, 32-years-old, has been identified as the Kentucky middle school substitute teacher who was arrested on Monday, April 15, for allegedly drinking vodka during class.
According to police, West — a substitute teacher at Royal Springs Middle School in Scott County, Kentucky — allegedly admitted to drinking four shots of vodka around 11 a.m. after students complained that West was “yelling and cursing” at students during class.
When officers arrived at the scene, which was filled with students aged 11 to 13, West was given a preliminary breath test which revealed that her blood alcohol content was at .317.
West was then arrested on Monday, April 15, and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place and endangering the welfare of a minor.
Following her arrest on April 15, West was taken to be held at the Scott County Detention Center. West has scheduled to make her next court appearance on Tuesday, April 16, at 1 p.m.
The Scott County School District released a statement following West’s arrest, saying that West is no longer employed by the district:
“On Monday, April 15, 2019, a substitute reported to Royal Spring Middle School to fill a half-day opening in the afternoon. The substitute demonstrated erratic behavior. School staff acted immediately upon learning of this behavior. Scott County Sheriff’s Department escorted the substitute off school grounds later charging her with alcohol intoxication. The individual is no longer employed by Scott County Schools in any capacity,” the Scott County School’s official statement read.
At this time, it is not clear if West will face any jail time for her crimes.
