On Friday, April 11, Vasyl Lomachenko and Anthony Crolla went head-to-head at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California for the Ukranian’s undisputed, unified lightweight championship. The fight was promoted by Top Rank Boxing and aired live on the Worldwide Leader in Sports’ digital streaming service, ESPN+.
Lomachenko (12-1, 9 KOs), entered the bout considered by many to be the best pound-for-pound boxer on the planet. He will be facing a tough test in Crolla (34-6-3, 13 KOs), however, despite the British boxer being a mandatory challenger.
Calling the night’s action was Joe Tessitore on play-by-play, former two-division world titleholder Tim Bradley serving as an analyst, and former two-division titleholder and 2004 Olympic gold medalist Andre Ward, who will also be serving as an analyst.
When the action began, it was Lomachenko who took the center of the ring and began to impose his will. It took until only the second round for Lomachenko to open up and hit his stride offensively. Loma was working the body and the head as Crolla looked for a way to mount his own offense.
As the fight continued, Lomachenko was relentless with his attack and opening up with his offense while Crolla simply shelled up and was attempting to survive the onslaught.
Lomachenko unleashed a furious attack in Round 3 that led to a knockdown.
In Round 4, Lomachenko continued his high pressure and was able to land a huge right hand that immediately sent Crolla to the mat. Lomachenko’s heavy right capped off a dominant performance in his latest title defense.
